It goes without saying that 2020 has been quite the year. With parts of Ontario still in lockdown, many children may be concerned that Santa won’t be able to visit their home to deliver their presents. There’s nothing to worry about, though. It’s already been established that Santa is immune to Covid-19 and will be able to travel in and out of the airspace to deliver presents to children after all.

Many of you are likely familiar with the popular and beloved holiday tradition of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Before bed, children around the world leave a plate of cookies and glass of milk for Santa — a way to thank him for all the amazing presents he leaves behind. Some children are extra kind and even leave carrots outside for the reindeer!

Did you know this tradition wasn’t always in place? Leaving milk and cookies out for Santa took off as an American holiday tradition in the 1930s, during the time of the Great Depression. In this time of extreme economic hardship, parents tried to teach their children the importance of giving to others and showing gratitude for what they receive. Nearly 100 years later, children are still leaving out milk and cookies for Santa to enjoy.

Now that we know Santa will be visiting us this year, it’s time to think about what kind of cookies we want to leave out for him. Chocolate chip? A classic. Ginger? Festive. Sugar? Delicious.
