Meet the creator behind Vanilla Bean Lane

Julie, the creator behind the venture Vanilla Bean Lane, was introduced to artistic cakes and whimsical confections at a very young age. Growing up, she was mommy’s-little-helper in the kitchen while she and her mother watched Martha Stewart Living on TV. For years, she remembers being mesmerized by the gorgeous desserts that looked too pretty to eat in Martha’s kitchen and, there was one episode in particular, says Julie, that truly sparked her love for baking.
In this episode, Martha Stewart combined two of my favourite things at the time: Barbies and dessert,” said Julie. “She brought to life a Barbie doll dress cake made for a Barbie doll, and for me, this was completely out-of-this-world.
After watching this episode, Julie decided to try her own Barbie doll dress cake. Using only the most basic kitchen tools of a butter knife and spatula to decorate the cake, her endeavour did not turn out as she had hoped. Though her first attempt at a Barbie doll dress cake didn’t work out, it took just a little encouragement from her mother to keep her honing in on her craft.
Over the years, Julie quickly learned the fundamentals of cake decorating and that’s when baking really turned into a passion for her. She has grown her skills and confidence in the kitchen and loves baking anything that allows her to express her artistic side — blending together her love for desserts and the arts.
My desserts each share the same attention to detail and beautiful craftsmanship,” explained Julie. ”They are carefully designed and curated to be the pièce de résistance at any event and and I am always overjoyed when I can share in the celebration of important milestones in someone’s life.
Julie lives downtown Toronto and for anyone who is familiar with the condo life knows how small those ovens are. Baking small desserts allows her to express her creative side using the space she has.
Although Julie has been baking for years, Vanilla Bean Lane is a relatively new venture. When the city of Toronto went on lockdown in 2020, Julie found herself baking a lot. In fact, she was baking so much that her family and friends could not even keep up with eating all the desserts she was making! So, Julie decided it was time to share her decadent desserts with others.
Julie is looking forward to opening a physical storefront soon. Shop now to help her grow in the community and make sure to subscribe above to stay current on Vanilla Bean Lane’s latest offers and announcements!
